Applying consciousness in top-level sport
Coach

My story

When Indrek Verro began coaching Estonia’s current top beach volleyball pair, they were ranked 75th in the world. At the most recent World Championships they achieved a high fifth place. The Practical Consciousness method Indrek applies to achieve a stable and lasting rise may at first glance seem unusual in sport, but the results speak for themselves – it works.

Throughout his life Indrek has been closely involved in sport. From childhood he spent ten years intensively doing competitive dance, at university he studied recreation management, and today it is hard to find a sport he has not come into contact with. The desire to know absolutely everything about the physical body was almost an obsession for him, and so, alongside his work as a coach, attending various trainings became a kind of hobby. Still, he felt he was hitting a wall. In theory he should already have known everything about the human physical body, yet something was still missing.

Eventually he came to a training where the knowledge he had acquired so far naturally fell into place, and the big picture and clarity he had been lacking began to emerge. The inner world was added to the holistic view – an inside-out approach and practice on a completely new level, which Indrek had never experienced in this form before. For Indrek, the Practical Consciousness course was an immediate recognition that here he would find answers even to questions he did not yet know how to ask. Some time later, while living in Switzerland, he began practising the techniques more and more and achieved a whole new quality in his life and his goals.

The more Indrek learned about a person’s inner anatomy and the connections between the physical body, emotions and thoughts, the more he saw how greatly all of this affects results in sport as well. The wall he hit when it seemed there was nothing more to know or learn about the physical body slowly began to disappear. He realised that it is possible to go even higher and even further, but to do so you have to go beyond the physical body.
“On the court, everything actually affects us. The angle of the light, the material of the net, the temperature of the sand, frustration with your partner when something goes wrong. We don’t even realise how many tiny details there are that keep us from holding our focus. The game happens in the present moment. By applying the qualities of consciousness and practising constantly, an athlete is able to disconnect from everything that doesn’t matter in the game. They are no longer affected by what went wrong half a minute ago. They don’t think about what has to happen in half an hour. They don’t hear the shouts from the stands. They are sharp and clear and exactly where they need to be – in the game,” says Indrek, describing the advantages of a conscious athlete compared with one who focuses only on the physical. “Watching a football penalty shootout, anyone can see that psychological readiness when taking the shot is even more important than the shot itself. In fact, this holds true everywhere in sport. With the inner world you can push boundaries to where you could never push them by developing the physical alone,” Indrek notes.

From distrust to curiosity

“When you do something differently, there is a lot of distrust. Hardly anyone understands the point of a volleyball training session where the athlete simply moves around the court for an hour. Without a ball. When the results start coming, interest naturally grows and people realise there must be something to it,” he says. For years Indrek has been able to experiment and test how to apply ancient yogic knowledge in today’s gyms and in the top-level sport of the new era. The first lessons have been learned and results achieved, but much still lies ahead. Indrek knows that in Estonia he may come across as a pioneer in combining consciousness with top-level sport, but he does not doubt for a moment that this is only the beginning. After all, Indrek gets solutions and answers on how to structure training and which direction to keep from the creator of the Practical Consciousness method, Ingvar Villido himself, and for Indrek there is no better guide in applying consciousness in top-level sport.

What will you learn in Practical Consciousness Class I & II?

In Class I: CLARITY you get to know your inner structure, the five-body system, as a map and compass for orienting yourself in the inner and outer world. Better orientation creates clarity, restores your ability to concentrate and gives you a complete picture that lets you push your capabilities even further.

In Class II: EMOTIONS you learn to release disturbing emotions that affect you even at moments when you do not notice them yourself – you learn to release anxiety, worry, depression, anger, the need to achieve, and so on. You are able to free yourself from a disruptive emotion instantly and easily. Even more importantly, this process frees you from the grip of deep-rooted patterns.

In Class I & II you also learn to live and act in the present moment. You find out how to use consciousness in a practical way, how to be focused and creative in every situation, and you gain the experience of the Real Self, which is one of the most important cornerstones of your development.

What does life become like once you start using the techniques?

  • Your health improves; new energy and inner vitality emerge;
  • You begin to see things clearly and objectively, and you are no longer so easily influenced;
  • You learn to overcome your fears by using the energy of fear in a new way;
  • Your life becomes lighter, smoother and more flowing, because you begin to remove what is superfluous from it;
  • You become more effective, because you learn to distinguish the essential from the non-essential and to make the right choices. This frees up time for the things that truly matter to you;
  • Your capacity for empathy improves, and with it your ability to cope in different situations;
  • You learn to see longer-term perspectives and to achieve goals that at first glance seem out of reach

Indrek's students share their experience

“Indrek’s guidance has shone a light into places no other coach has been able to reach. With the help of his precise instructions I have freed myself from major obstacles both in sport and beyond it, and thanks to this my development has been steady and fast. He has a deep understanding of how a person functions, which helps him easily see the causes of my problems and give guidance on how to resolve them. I am very grateful for his help and support.”

“Training with Indrek has completely changed my life. Together we have built my training around the Practical Consciousness techniques and gone into real depth. The physical body is no longer an isolated unit but part of a greater whole. So development in sport means development in everyday life, and we no longer treat the physical body violently. It is, without exaggeration, life-changing!”
