Jaanus Viese

From sales trainer to eco-rebel & from eco-rebel to inner balance

Do you also feel sadness about society, asking: “Why on earth do they do that?!” Or are you rebellious and disillusioned, wanting to tear down existing structures? To change someone? Or shape them in your own image? To escape from here to a calmer life?

Although Jaanus Viese’s childhood home was in a high-rise tower block in the capital, already at university he was called an “eco-man” – a fairly rare outlook in the early 1990s. “I went to study natural sciences because I was interested in how the world is built. I wanted to understand the connections between physics, chemistry and biology, and I was also fascinated by nature conservation and the teaching profession. Yet for financial reasons I didn’t go to work at a school.”

Instead, Jaanus spent his career as a suit-and-tie man in various positions. He has worked on the president’s security team, and in international companies as a sales representative, advertising director, sales manager and later also as a consultant.
“I remember winning every job competition at prestigious companies, yet I was still dissatisfied. I was looking for something else, which I called a natural way of life. I wanted to live in nature like our ancestors and raise my own children and grow my own food. I was ‘fed up’ with the world of money and chasing results, and over time I developed a complete resistance to selling and influencing others. I was disillusioned with modern humanity. My bitterness was deepened further by losing my parents at a fairly young age and watching their lives from the sidelines.”
Jaanus decided to make a U-turn and became an eco-rebel who longed to make the whole world “green”. He was rebellious and critical of everyone who did not live according to his “criteria”: “The food was grown with chemicals, or building materials had a high footprint, or entrepreneurs were greedy capitalists. In short, everything was doomed except me.”

Jaanus fled Tallinn to live at the other end of Estonia. Building his home from scratch in the middle of the forest, raising children and, at the same time, having fewer ways to earn a living set Jaanus’s inner world seething. Emotions that had until then been hidden and suppressed came to the surface, and life became hell. The magnificent views of nature from the window did not help; he did not find the peace he had hoped for in the countryside. Tremendous sadness, bouts of anger and the resulting behaviour deepened his passivity and his tendency to give up.

“I looked for help in spiritual books and went to various courses, but I didn’t know how to bring that knowledge into everyday life. I did understand that you need to become conscious and be in the present, and that you cannot change others, but how to achieve that remained a mystery. I still wanted to fight injustice.”

Coming to the Practical Consciousness courses, clarity finally began to emerge about how to actually achieve this. Jaanus realised that at the time he had been seeing the world through a prism of disillusionment, and that his opposition to modern society had been driven mainly by emotions. Now Jaanus is more benevolent and calmer, and he no longer tries to fight injustice at every opportunity. The world is brighter and more neutral, because there is no bitterness or disappointment in others or in himself. “I moved back among people, I live in a small town, I also use concrete in construction, and I can even eat so-called ordinary bananas (‘non-organic’ ones). The children eating crisps or their smartphone habits no longer irritate me. Instead of slamming doors, I talk to my family members calmly and in a friendly way. I am kind towards them.”

Practical Consciousness has also helped Jaanus free himself from his resistance to working as a craftsman, or a “workman”, as clients call him. Today he works as a professional stove builder and natural builder, and to the best of his ability he also helps others change their lives with the help of the Practical Consciousness teachings. Jaanus has practised the Practical Consciousness techniques since 2012 and is a certified Practical Consciousness teacher. Jaanus has a secondary-school teacher’s education and a master’s degree in natural sciences.

What to expect from Practical Consciousness Class I & II?

In the course I will teach you to discover the emotions rising up from within you. They are a certain fixed and predictable set of emotions, or energies, that you use and that keep your life within very narrow limits. By freeing yourself, with the techniques taught in the course, from the automatic emotions that shape your character, as well as from background emotions you don’t even notice, you are able to change your life yourself. You can do what you do well, without being sad, angry or opposed to others. As you free yourself from the emotions that limit you, your tolerance of others increases, you begin to understand others better and your urge to criticise steadily diminishes. Your ability to cooperate with others grows significantly. Using what you learn in the course makes you versatile, and acquiring new skills in the areas you need becomes easy. There is no resistance. Come, learn and make yourself simple and benevolent.

In Practical Consciousness Class I & II you will learn

  • The yogis’ knowledge of the unknown anatomy of the human body;

  • To maintain a calmer and clearer state of mind, and the skill of quieting the inner critic;
